The Cowboy Junkies are a great group whose style changes a bit on every album and almost all of the albums are classics. Their 1998 album is expected out in June.
200 More Miles is a great recent live compilation and contains the great song "Lost My Driving Wheel" that they played live years ago at the Wiltern Theater but it took them forever to release the song.
In one review in the LA Times the said that Mazzy Star, below is similar to the Cowboy Junkies, and in a sense they are, so there's a good chance you'll like them too.
Enigma is one of the great "space music" groups of the 90's. Their first and all time classic must have album is Mcmxc A.D. The second album Cross of Changes has some good songs, esp the melancoly "lonely in my room" song but the album is not as good as the first. Their third album Enigma 3 Le Roi Est Mort Vive, while not as good as the first, comes close. Some of the songs intros appear to have fragments from the first album mixed in.
Their third album,
Comparsa has just arrived (Spring/98) and
is a break from the past in some ways - the previous two albums were
more forest and pygmy influenced but this one is different.
The earliers ones are must haves too.
Their first album is self titled as Deep Forest came
out in 1993.
In 1995 they came out with
Boheme...
B Tribes music is a kind of Spanish influenced world beat that is nice and consistent.
Sensual Sensual is the newest.
