It’s hard to express just how much settling those questions has galvanized Redfin to attack the monsters under our bed. Sure, we were dimly aware of those problems before, but we existed in a state of seething, unacknowledged tentativeness. Weeks of contemplating what it will take for us to win prepared Redfin to swallow the red pill, stuff the TaunTaun, hack the Kobayashi Maru. At very few moments in a company’s history does it makes its way so deliberately. Like the recovered patient who saw while sick everything she had always meant to do, we want to make the most of our new lease on life.
For me, the most important point is that whatever questions others ask about your business are worth recording, cataloguing and quantifying
" the questions VCs asked Redfin that changed how we think about our business."

Hahaha, "Why did you choose a liberal-arts degree when your entire family urged you to go into finance?"
- - - - What is your mother's maiden name? What is your older sister's favorite Monopoly game piece? Who did your paternal grandfather vote for in the 1956 presidential election? Why did you choose a liberal-arts degree when your entire family urged you to go into finance? In what year did you begin working on your novel? How many weeks away was graduation when you dropped out of college? What was your score on the civil-service employment exam? Where were you sitting when your girlfriend told you she was pregnant? Where did you never end up going for your honeymoon? In what year did you begin working for the post office? What is the name of the hedge-fund manager your ex-wife married? How many hours did it take you to drink that bottle of Jack Daniel's yesterday? What time was it when, in a drunken rage, you threw your novel into the fire? If you could do it all over again, what would you do differently?
I think some of these might actually be in use!

How many times have you hung up the phone after a chat with a new prospective client and then immediately slapped your forehead and said “I can’t believe I forgot to ask ______!”. Yes, fill in the blank. You have done this, right? If not, you will shortly. Well, I jotted down my own personal list of forgetful-questions, and did a quick survey of the top 20 results for “questions to ask new web clients” and related searches. Aside from semantic fluctuations, there was zero overlap: we all ask the same stuff. So I present below the best 72 questions to ask prospective web design clients, along with a PDF chart.

assertTrue( ): One of the toughest job-interview questions ever
http://asserttrue.blogspot.com/2009/05/one-of-toughest-job-interview-questions.html
I mentioned in a previous post that I once interviewed for a job at a well-known search company. One of the five people who interviewed me asked a question that resulted in an hour-long discussion: "Explain how you would develop a frequency-sorted list of the ten thousand most-used words in the English language." I'm not sure why anyone would ask that kind of question in the course of an interview for a technical writing job (it's more of a software-design kind of question), but it led to a lively discussion, and I still think it's one of the best technical-interview questions I've ever heard. Ask yourself: How would you answer that question?

The author talks about a question he got at a job interview, and goes on to provide a reasonable recap/discussion about hash tables. This is generally the kind of answer I look for when I ask similar questions. 9/10 candidates I talk with can't actually discuss a hash function, and don't know how to create one.

"And when the surface is scratched, what you find below is extraordinary - or, rather, extraordinarily difficult to make good, clear sense of. Lying in wait are arguments that lead to, if not sheer lunacy, then bullets we're loathe to bite."
Consider a photo of someone you think is you eight years ago. What makes that person you? You might say he she was composed of the same cells as you now. But most of your cells are replaced every seven years. You might instead say you're an organism, a particular human being, and that organisms can survive cell replacement - this oak being the same tree as the sapling I planted last year.

8 Questions to Ask When Interviewing at a Startup
http://www.instigatorblog.com/questions-to-ask-a-startup/2010/06/18/
Job interviews are meant to be conversations. The interviewer asks some questions and the interviewee does the same. It’s never a good sign when an interviewee doesn’t have any questions. It shows a lack of interest. This is particularly true when interviewing for a startup job because there tend to be so many more unknowns at startups compared to more established, bigger organizations.

«What are the startup’s plans for the next 6-12 months? What are the key metrics for success in the next 6-12 months? What’s the competition like?»
