Meet my new favorite pound cake. I have had this cake bookmarked for, oh, 100 years or so and while some recipes that I unearth from their 100-year queue are the kinds of disappointments that did not improve with age, this is of the opposite variety: Why did it take me so long to make this? Here, let me kick myself a few times. crackly top I’d argue that it was fear. Pound cakes are of British origin, dating back nearly 300 years and their name came from the fact that original pound cakes contained one pound each of butter (four sticks), sugar (two cups), eggs (eight large) and flour (four cups), with no leaveners other than the air that was whipped into the batter. They tend to be a bit heavy and dense but it’s hard to argue that this type is not for you when anything else is not a true pound cake. strawberriesstrawberry couliscream cheese pound cakecream cheese pound cake When it becomes clear that a little erring from the pound cake doctrine is in order, one can go in a lot of dHow to Make a Choco Taco | Serious Eats : Recipes

Raspberry Buttermilk Cake (recipe)the great unshrinkable sweet tart shell | smitten kitchen
I have lamented tart crusts for years, as it seemed that no matter what I did–chill the crusts, weight the crusts, arranged small prayer circles outside the oven–they shrunk on me. No matter how many fingers I crossed, no matter how many Guaranteed No-Fail tricks I auditioned, no matter how many pounds of butter I had sacrificed in my quest, the crust I’d remove from the oven would hold as little as half of the volume of the one I put in, leading to thin tarts and pools of extra filling and oh so very many gray hairs. tart shell Which is why today it is taking all of my restraint not to run up that last flight of stairs and shout from my rooftop: I have conquered my tart shells at last, and they shrink no more! … Although I suspect in my neck of this island, that would barely cause an eyebrow to arch. But it is true, so deliciously true. And before I go any further–you know, into the most awesome stuff I filled this tart crust with–I need to mark this momentous occasion its own postpeanut butter crispy bars | smitten kitchen

This bread pudding recipe is based on one from the famed Bon Ton Cafe in New Orleans. My friend Becca has been making this bread pudding in her family for years and made us a batch for the holidays. The sauce is loaded with bourbon (Becca says the Bon Ton's sauce has even more bourbon in it), so you might want to use somewhat less. One of my favorite things about this — besides the whole CHOCOLATE and PUDDING and PIE thing — is the way that despite its all-id, kid-like nature, this pie is surprisingly unsweet and not heavy. There’s barely a half cup of sugar in the whole she-bang and the lack of excessive richness (it’s a milk and cornstarch pudding, not a weighty egg yolk and cream custard) makes for something you can easily crave on a hot summer day, although you’ve already been warned that that craving may strike without warning.cheesecake-marbled brownies | smitten kitchen

When blueberries are in season, what better to do with them (other than eating them straight from the basket) than make blueberry pie? Blueberries have been found to be a "superfood", so good for you that you should go out of your way to eat them. They neutralize free radicals, protect your heart, improve your vision, and protect against degenerative brain diseases. (See the whole story at The World's Healthiest Foods website.) There are only four things going on here: a single pie crust, some streusel, hunks of quartered peaches and crème fraîche but when they’re baked together, the crust becomes a shell that decks your plate with pastry flecks and flakes and the filling bakes itself into something more like a tangy custard and less like a traditionally sweet slumpy pie. This is a peach pie for grownups, almost excessively so: I always wish desserts were a little less sweet and still felt this pie would benefit from additional sugar (I present that option below). The Pioneer Woman Cooks - Ree Drummond

you take whole clementines and boil them for two hours before grinding them up, adding some sugar, a lot of eggs, a ton of ground almonds and baking powder and that’s it: you have a cake.
Clementine Cake Adapted from Nigella Lawson … Oh right, I forgot to mention that this cake was darn good. I am not going to tell you that it is my favorite cake ever. It wasn’t. But all of the things I was worried would go wrong — it would be too bitter, it would be too tough, nobody would eat it — I couldn’t have been further off about. It is ridiculously moist, not bitter and surprisingly popular at a dinner party. You know, until you tell people they’re eating a cake comprised of boiled rinds. 4 to 5 clementines (about 375grams/slightly less than 1 pound total weight) 6 eggs 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons (225 grams) sugar 2 1/3 cups (250 grams) ground almonds 1 heaping teaspoon baking powderYogurt Tartlets Recipe - 101 Cookbooks

Oat-crusted with a creamy, ginger-spiked yogurt filling, these charming tartlets finish off a meal quite nicely. 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour 1/3 cup rolled oats scant 1/2 teaspoon fine-grain sea salt 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon butter, coconut oil, or olive oil 2 tablespoons maple syrup 2 tablespoons natural cane sugar (optional) 1/4 teaspoon toasted sesame oil 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (I use low-fat here) 1/4 cup maple syrup zest of one lemon 3 teaspoons fresh ginger juice* 2 large eggs, lightly beaten crystalized ginger, dried fruit, or fresh fruit/berries for topping special equipment: 6 small tart (4-inch) pans or I suspect one 9-inch tart pan would be just about right for a single tart.
I've never thought of using yogurt as a filling for tarts, but this sounds delicious and light.

The cookies use pureed white beans in the dough, lots of oats, and whole wheat flour. After a bit of experimenting, I had a baggie full of palm-sized, sesame coated, bun-shaped cookies flavored with aniseed, lemon zest, olive oil and chopped dates. The cookies are beautifully tender, licorice-scented, with a bit of crunch from the sesame seed coating.

Marathon Cookies 2 cups rolled oats (not instant oats) 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour 1 T. aniseed, crushed in mortar and pestle (or spice grinder) 1 t, baking powder 1 t. baking soda zest of one lemon 1/2 t. fine grain sea salt one 15-ounce can white kidney, great northern, or navy beans, rinsed & drained 1/4 cup olive oil 1 cup natural cane sugar (or brown sugar) 1 large egg 1 t. vanilla extract 1/3 cup chopped dates 1/3 cup sesame seeds comments: Excellent recipe! I turned them into chocolate chip cookies by omitting the anise seed and lemon zest and using 1 teaspoon of cinnamon instead. Instead of adding dates, I used 1 cup chocolate chips then rolled in raw sugar before flattening them. I substituted cardomon and powdered ginger for the aniseed, to great effect.pumpkin swirl brownies | smitten kitchen

I came across a cookie when I visited Portland a couple years back. I fell hard for this cookie. Chocolate Puddle Cookie Recipe Without getting too serious, I've been having an internal debate about whether or not I should post this recipe. When I post sweets or treats, I like them to have some sort of whole grain twist, or feature a natural sweetener. I mean, that's usually how I cook and bake. Now the commonplace pumpkin cookie is often too bready for me and usually covered in some too sweet glaze of sorts. It’s a cookie that I generally shy away from. This one however is a bit different thanks to a nice dose of oatmeal to keep it very soft and chewy. Furthermore, the use of cardamom, currants, and pumpkin seeds give it a curiously different and delightful taste from other pumpkin cookies.

Maple is a nice match for many berries and I made it my sweetener of choice for this cake. In the back of my mind, I was aiming for a rustic cake that used no white sugar and no white flour. It's a stunner of a cake - the huckleberries burst and bleed into the crumb of the cake in quite a dramatic fashion. The crumble crust plays off the tenderness of the cake nicely, so be sure to get a bit of it in every bite.Cherrapeno: Winter Cranberry Cupcakes
