Infinite Zoom

It’s definitely cool how on TV shows like the X Files or CSI, they can magically zoom into a low res picture almost forever and get more and more detail out of it.

I have a Canon Digital Rebel (6MP) and one of their low end telephotos, the Canon EF 80-200mm I think.

Last Summer (July 2004) I went down to watch the International Surf Festival Volleyball Tournament at the Manhattan Beach Pier. It’s a very fun event – 6 on 6 volleyball and the players are good – and most teams dress up in costumes.

I was on the Strand, shooting with the tele, and easily 50’, maybe 100’ away.

Here’s one interesting picture I took. Click on it to see the original image.

OK, stop looking at The Lady in Red.

Check out the guys sunglasses.

Let’s zoom in some more.

Here’s his eye. Hey – this isn’t that interesting, too small.

OK, now we’ll enlarge that little eye picture 600% with different resizing algorithms that Photoshop provides. From really far away you can see what the dude is looking at, though I guess it shouldn’t be a suprise!
